Rockingham Motor Speedway - 22/08/11

The Pickup Trucks Racing Championship was back at Rockingham Motor Speedway in Corby this weekend for 2 more Spectacular Races. Qualifying got underway after a free practice session, Neil qualified 8th in the first session and 10th in the second session. Race 1 started late Saturday afternoon with Neil taking position on the front row of the grid next to Lee Rogers #69 on pole. As the track presentation got underway the rain slowly began to fall, but this did put Neil off who managed to get a fantastic start maintaining his ground, by the halfway point of the race the rain had stop. Neil finished the race in 7th place with a fastest lap time of 40.956 seconds - the third fastest lap time of the race, 0.204 seconds off the fastest lap time. Neil started Race 2 from pole, he managed to get a good sprint to Turn 1 with Paul Tompkins #12 only just getting the better of him as he passed start/finish line for lap 2, Neil continued battling with the pack, gaining 4 fastest times of the lap. But 2 Laps before the end of the race there was a crash between Turns 1 and 2 with Dave Longhurst #23 ending up in the wall, this meant that the race had to be cheque flagged prematurely. Neil finished the race in 5th place, which has now moved us up to 2nd place in the Oval Championship behind Steve Dance #16 in 1st place, it has also maintained our 5th place in the Overall Championship. Our next race takes place at our local track - Mallory Park on the 11 September, where the Pickup Trucks will have 3 Races.
