Relssert Racing’s Neil Tressler has designs on sixth place in the Pickup Truck Racing Championship, as the historic Donington Park circuit prepares to host Rounds 15 and 16 of the 2013 season (17-18 August).
Tressler, from Warwickshire, has shown genuine front-running pace since switching to uprated 2.3-litre Vauxhall power at the start of the year, but has been prevented from realising his full potential in a season filled with mechanical maladies and incidents.
Relssert Racing’s Isuzu truck took a battering at Lydden Hill’s round in July and has undergone extensive repairs in recent weeks.
The team also continued fettling its setup during the down time and heads to Donington on the Derbyshire/Leicestershire border with renewed optimism as it strives for the top six in the championship.
Tressler said: “We’ve worked hard to piece the truck back together but will also bring an upgrade to Donington that should improve our pace in the wet. The damage sustained at Lydden was substantial but the truck is looking resplendent again and I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel.
“I really like Donington… in the dry. It’s a bit of a gearbox breaker, but you can get a good flow around there where you just hit every apex. I’ve had quite a few good results there in the past, but I’m out to score consistent points in the hope of breaking back into the top six in the championship.
He continued: “Sixth is where I should be in the standings and I reckon consistent top ten finishes at Donington should be enough to propel me up the leaderboard. There’s a vast points difference to the top five and it will take some sort of miracle to catch them, but I think I could maintain sixth right until the championship’s conclusion.”
